George Moghalu Clinches Labour Party Ticket for Anambra Governorship Race
George Moghalu, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and former National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has emerged as the Labour Party (LP) candidate for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
Moghalu secured the party’s ticket after garnering 575 delegate votes during the LP primary held on Saturday at Finotel Hotel in Awka, the state capital. His sole contender, John Nwosu, had formally withdrawn from the race roughly eight hours before the exercise commenced but still received 19 votes.
Meanwhile, the incumbent Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, was unanimously affirmed as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) by party delegates during their primary election held at Alex Ekwueme Square, also in Awka.
Announcing the outcome, the returning officer, Uche Nwegbo, revealed that out of 3,260 expected delegates, 3,175 were accredited and 3,172 votes cast, with only four deemed invalid. Governor Soludo secured 3,168 “yes” votes, with no dissenting votes recorded.
Nwegbo officially declared Governor Soludo as the party’s standard-bearer in accordance with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
