Following recent communal clashes that led to loss of lives and destruction of property worth millions of naira, the state government had imposed a curfew on Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun towns. However, the curfew was later relaxed to accommodate the Eid-el-Fitr festival.
In a statement released on March 31, 2025, by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke stressed that he would not hesitate to take disciplinary action, including the removal of any traditional ruler whose community fails to maintain peace.
The governor revealed that security agencies have increased surveillance in response to intelligence about potential conflict in the affected towns. He also noted that the interrogation of key figures involved in the previous clashes is being expedited.
Adeleke reminded community leaders that the peace agreements they have signed are binding and will be strictly enforced. He emphasized that the decision to relax the curfew was motivated by humanitarian considerations, but warned that any attempt to exploit the adjustment for further violence would lead to the reinstatement of the 24-hour curfew.
Furthermore, the governor declared that he would remove from office any traditional ruler in whose domain violence reoccurs. He urged royal fathers to take responsibility and ensure their subjects maintain peace, declaring, “Enough is enough.
