Governors Mohammed, Uzodimma, Fintiri, Yusuf, And Ododo Approve 2026 State Budgets Into Law

According to reports, five Nigerian governors have formally signed the 2026 budgets for their respective states into law, marking a significant step toward fiscal implementation this year. Governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano), and Ahmed Usman Ododo (Kogi) approved their states’ annual appropriations following legislative scrutiny.

In Benue State, the House of Assembly passed a ₦695 billion budget awaiting Governor Hyacinth Alia’s assent. In Bauchi, Governor Mohammed approved a ₦877 billion budget after a minor reduction of ₦1.1 billion from the originally proposed ₦878.15 billion, following a detailed review by the House. Mohammed commended the lawmakers for their non-partisan approach, emphasizing that the adjustments preserved capital allocations while demonstrating fiscal discipline. He assured residents that the “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability” would sustain investments across infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, commerce, security, and social services.

Governor Uzodimma of Imo State signed the ₦1.4 trillion “Budget of Economic Breakthrough” into law, highlighting its role in stimulating economic growth and improving living standards. He credited close cooperation between the executive and legislature and emphasized completing ongoing infrastructure projects, boosting revenue generation, and fostering an inclusive governance approach. Uzodimma also noted the enabling environment created by federal fiscal reforms and reinforced his commitment to citizen-focused service delivery.

In Adamawa, Governor Fintiri assented to the ₦583 billion budget, with 64 per cent allocated to capital expenditure. Fintiri stressed the administration’s dedication to public safety, explaining that the cancellation of a planned crossover concert was necessary due to security concerns. The governor reiterated that protecting lives and assets remains a top priority.

Governor Yusuf of Kano signed the state’s ₦1.47 trillion budget, describing it as the largest in northern Nigeria’s history. He reaffirmed the administration’s focus on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social welfare, noting that the budget would enhance living standards and accelerate ongoing projects.

In Kogi State, Governor Ododo approved a ₦820.5 billion budget, emphasizing its alignment with residents’ aspirations. With ₦455.46 billion earmarked for capital projects and ₦365.43 billion for recurrent expenditures, Ododo outlined the budget’s objectives to strengthen revenue generation, enforce fiscal discipline, boost investment, and support inclusive growth. He described the budget as a strategic roadmap for sustainable development and shared prosperity.

Speakers and legislators across the states highlighted the transparency and inclusiveness of the budget processes, noting thorough reviews of revenue projections and expenditure priorities to ensure alignment with citizens’ needs and state development goals.
