Governor’s Wife Steps In To Aid Widow Struggling To Feed Kids With Poultry Feeds

Wife of the Akwa Ibom State governor, Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, has come to the aid of Grace Emmanuel, a 22-year-old widow who was feeding her four children with poultry and fish feeds from the farm where she works in Eket Local Council.

The incident came to light after Praise Uzoma, the daughter of the farm owner, shared the widow’s plight on Instagram. The post generated widespread sympathy and prompted the First Lady to initially donate N500,000 for Emmanuel’s upkeep.

In a recent update, the Press Secretary to the First Lady, Mrs. Uduak Ekong, revealed that Emmanuel has now been provided with a furnished accommodation, kitchen utensils, and food supplies for three months. Further support includes increasing her monthly salary from N15,000 to N35,000, with N20,000 being added by the First Lady’s office. Emmanuel is also set to receive training in skills and business management and will be re-enrolled in school to complete her secondary education.

Mrs. Ekong emphasized the importance of guiding Emmanuel, noting that although she is a mother of four, she is still very young and vulnerable. The First Lady has also arranged for a mental evaluation and counseling for Emmanuel to ensure her well-being before proceeding with further empowerment initiatives.
