Heavy-Security Presence As Hearing Begins On Kano-Emirates Battle, NBA Backs Sanusi II (Details)

As the hearing on the Kano Emirates dispute commences, there is a significant security presence around the Federal High Court complex on Court Road, Kano. The nationwide strike over minimum wage had previously affected the court’s proceedings regarding the restraining order on Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II’s reinstatement as Emir.

The Federal High Court in Kano had issued an order preventing the state government from enforcing the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law. Justice Mohammed Liman granted the order following an application by Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate.

Policemen and Department of State Services (DSS) operatives have strategically placed their vehicles around the court, restricting movement and diverting traffic from Court Road to Zoo Road and the Gyadi-Gyadi area.

In a related development, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has recognized Muhammadu Sanusi II as the rightful Emir of Kano amidst the ongoing power struggle. The NBA’s recognition, along with support from district heads, council chairmen, commissioners, and prominent citizens, was underscored by their invitation to Sanusi for their annual conference in Kano. The event, attended by notable legal figures, marks the first annual NBA conference for the northern region, highlighting Sanusi’s status as the 16th Emir of Kano.
