Historic Shift: Sister Victoria Clarke Becomes First Non-Obu To Lead Brotherhood Of The Cross And Star

According to Ireporter Online, the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS) has inaugurated a new Executive Council led by Acting Chairperson, Sister Victoria Clarke, following the directive of the Sole Spiritual Head, Leader Olumba Olumba Obu, fondly called O. O. Obu.

This marks a historic moment for the religious organization, as it is the first time in its history that such a key leadership position has been entrusted to someone outside the Olumba Olumba Obu family.

Speaking during a reception held in her honour at the 2025 International Women Fellowship Day in Uyo, Sister Clarke pledged that her administration would usher in transformative reforms and establish diversified funding sources to boost evangelism and organizational growth.

Describing the peaceful leadership transition as a victory for all adherents—especially women—Clarke, who also serves as President of the International Women Fellowship (IWF), disclosed plans to expand BCS’s financial base beyond traditional tithe collections, venturing into business, technology, and other innovative ventures.

She emphasized that such diversification would strengthen the organization’s global outreach through pilgrimages and missionary initiatives. Clarke hailed Leader Olumba Olumba Obu for his decision to break longstanding leadership traditions, affirming that the development demonstrates the inclusivity of God’s Kingdom, where gender does not determine one’s capacity to serve.

“This appointment signifies a liberation for women. The Father has shown that in the Kingdom of God, there is neither male nor female,” she declared.

The Acting Chairperson further expressed confidence that the shift in leadership structure—removing the monopoly once held by the Olumba family—signaled a new era of spiritual maturity and administrative openness for the Brotherhood.

Clarke acknowledged the magnitude of work ahead, particularly in evangelism, financial diversification, and income-generating projects, but assured members that with collective support and divine grace, the administration would succeed.

She extended gratitude to Leader Olumba Olumba Obu, members of the College of Bishops, and the International Planning Committee for their support and organization of her reception.

Born in the United Kingdom in 1950, Sister Clarke has spent decades serving the faith across West Africa and the Caribbean, overseeing the construction of several BCS cathedrals dedicated to the worship of the Father.

Deaconess Maria Onyeacholem, who chaired the event, commended members for their unity and urged them to actively support the new leadership for continued progress and blessings.

In his sermon, Officiating Priest Christ Witness Ime Akpakpan, drawing from Luke 12:48, Matthew 19:21, and Acts 4:34–35, encouraged members to use their talents and possessions in service to God, reminding them that accountability would come at the end of time.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Bishops Emmanuel Shegum, Alex Igwe, Iwat Etuk, Anthony Udeh, Bassey Ephraim, and Sape, alongside other national and state representatives.
