Hospitals Turn To Bunkers: Katsina Sanctions N703 Million Security Upgrade

Katsina State Government has approved ₦703 million for the construction of perimeter fences and security barricades in 14 general hospitals located in high-risk frontline local government areas, ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE.

This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport, Sani Magaji-Ingawa, during a press briefing following the State Executive Council meeting in Katsina.

Magaji-Ingawa revealed that the affected local government areas include Kankara, Malumfashi, Faskari, Jibia, Funtua, Kafur, Dandume, Musawa, Batsari, Dutsin-ma, Kurfi, Danmusa, Katsina metropolis, and Amadi Rimi General Hospital.

He stated that the initiative forms part of the state government’s broad security blueprint aimed at safeguarding health workers and patients across vulnerable areas.

“These enhancements are critical to strengthening the resilience of our healthcare infrastructure in volatile zones,” he emphasized.

In a related development, ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the council also approved the upgrade of the Comprehensive Health Centre in Mai’adua Local Government to a full-fledged General Hospital, with a budget of ₦1.3 billion.

Furthermore, ₦18.5 billion was approved for the construction of the Rafin Iya–Tashar Bawa–Sabuwa road, a vital corridor expected to bolster security logistics, enhance agricultural transport, and stimulate regional commerce.

Magaji-Ingawa explained, “This road is part of our integrated approach to improve connectivity, empower rural farmers, and accelerate socio-economic development across Katsina State.”

Also addressing the media, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr. Bala Salisu-Zango, disclosed that ₦747.3 million has been earmarked for the establishment of a new Security Consultative Centre in Katsina.

The facility, he said, will serve as a central coordination hub for inter-agency collaboration and strategic planning.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the centre will be handed over to the Federal Government upon completion to enhance synergy among security agencies operating within the state.
