Tunba, who pleaded not guilty, stood accused of theft by a servant, as per police reports presented by Sgt. Esther Emmanuel, the Police Prosecutor, during the court briefing.
The complainant, Asma’u Hamza of Karewa, lodged a complaint at the Karewa Police Station on January 28 around 11:30 am, detailing the alleged incident.
Emmanuel narrated that Tunba, employed by Hamza for over three years, had enjoyed a relationship of trust with the family. However, suspicions arose when Tunba mysteriously vanished, along with Hamza’s handbag and Zenith Bank ATM card, on January 25.
Two days later, Hamza received a distressing debit alert of N130,000, leading to Tunba’s subsequent disappearance.
Despite attempts to locate Tunba proving futile, law enforcement managed to apprehend her. Tunba, however, denied the allegations during police questioning, suggesting that the withdrawals might be linked to various point-of-sale transactions.
The prosecution stated that Tunba’s alleged actions contravened section 287 of the 2018 Adamawa State Criminal Code.
The case has been adjourned until February 19 for further proceedings, with Area Court Judge Al’amin Diya granting Tunba bail in the sum of N100,000, along with one surety.
