I Was Billed N50,000 For A Drug Worth N2,000” – Qing Madi
Singer and songwriter Qing Madi has narrated an experience in which she was allegedly overcharged for medication at a local pharmacy, shedding light on the challenges celebrities may encounter in routine situations. According to Ireporter Online, the incident occurred while she was in a car with her parents, who asked her to step out and purchase medicine from a nearby pharmacy.
Recounting the episode during the ‘Tea with Tay’ podcast, the singer explained that she felt obliged to comply with her father’s request at the time. Upon arriving at the pharmacy, she said staff quickly recognised her and began taking photos and videos, drawing attention to her presence.
She disclosed that she was later billed N50,000 for a drug she believed ordinarily cost N2,000. The situation escalated when her father questioned the price, but the pharmacy staff reportedly denied any wrongdoing. Madi expressed embarrassment over both the alleged overcharge and the public attention she received during the encounter.
The account highlights the potential downsides of fame, particularly how public recognition can sometimes influence everyday interactions and transactions. Known for popular songs such as “See Finish” and “Ole,” the singer shared the story as a cautionary reflection on navigating sudden stardom.
