The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the list of candidates contesting in the upcoming bye-election for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency in Oyo State.

According to a statement obtained by iReporter Online on Monday, the election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 16. The poll is being conducted to fill the vacant seat following the passing of Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi, the former representative of the constituency, who died in July 2024 while serving his second term under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While the electoral body earlier noted that nineteen political parties expressed interest in the contest, the final list has been narrowed down to five candidates representing five different political parties.

The confirmed contenders include Dexter Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Adewale Haastrup Olatunji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Olabisi Olajumoke Odususi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Also in the race are Fola Sunday Oyekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Hammed Badmus of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The forthcoming election is expected to generate significant attention in Oyo State, given the strategic importance of the Ibadan North constituency and its political relevance in the South-West.
