Osun Boils: APC Slams PDP Over ‘Baseless’ Petition to Global Bodies

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has criticized the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly attempting to mislead the international community over claims of federal government non-compliance with a court order on local government allocations.

According to a press statement obtained by iReporter Online on Monday and signed by the APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party described the PDP’s recent petition to global human rights groups and diplomatic missions as an exercise in futility.

The controversy stems from allegations made by the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, who accused the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, of intentionally obstructing the disbursement of constitutionally allocated funds to local governments. The PDP claims this is in defiance of a Court of Appeal ruling that recognized PDP-elected chairmen and councillors.

Reacting to the accusation, the Osun APC insisted that the February 10, 2025, judgment of the Court of Appeal reinstated the APC-elected local council officials and that allocation processes are currently underway with no obstruction. The party further called on international observers and organizations to disregard what it referred to as “baseless accusations.”

“The funds are being accessed by their rightful custodians, and there is no case of withholding,” the APC stated.

The party also questioned the PDP’s decision to withdraw related litigation from the Supreme Court, suggesting that the move undermines the opposition’s confidence in its legal claims.

Citing a Supreme Court decision that granted full autonomy to local governments, APC accused the PDP of overstepping its bounds and acting as an unnecessary interloper in matters already settled by competent courts.

The statement further alleged that the Osun State Government, under PDP leadership, is currently indebted to the tune of ₦84 billion—an amount the APC claims was fraudulently obtained from local councils.

“The proper legal route for addressing any perceived disobedience of court orders is through contempt proceedings, not public relations campaigns aimed at NGOs that hold no jurisdiction,” the APC concluded.
