If There Are Terrorism Sponsors Within Government, They Will Be Exposed — Akpabio
According to Ireporter Online, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has called on Nigerians to remain optimistic and consistently pray for the nation, stressing that individuals behind terrorism and violent crimes must be identified and exposed regardless of their status or position in society.
He made the remarks during an inter-denominational church service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 2026 Democracy Day celebration themed “God of Hope, Actualise Our Dreams.” The service brought together top government officials, clergy, and worshippers who gathered to reflect on the country’s democratic journey.
Akpabio, in a statement issued by his media office, reflected on his tenure as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, noting that he introduced monthly prayer meetings at a time the state was battling rising cases of kidnapping, militancy, and violent attacks. He explained that prayer played a significant role in addressing insecurity during that period and remains vital in confronting Nigeria’s current security challenges.
The Senate President further emphasized the need for sustained prayers so that sponsors of terrorism and other forms of criminality would be exposed, whether they operate within or outside government circles. He maintained that Nigeria has endured several difficult phases in its history, including insurgency, political instability, and public health crises, but has continued to remain united and resilient.
Speaking on the nation’s security situation, Akpabio stated that those responsible for sponsoring violence, regardless of political or social influence, would eventually be uncovered and held accountable, adding that peace would elude perpetrators until they are defeated.
The Democracy Day church service formed part of activities commemorating 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance in Nigeria.
