Vice President Kashim Shettima has stated that he plans to extend a gesture of goodwill to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections.

Shettima expressed his intention to retire Atiku to his hometown and provide him with livestock for rearing.

Following the affirmation of President Bola Tinubu’s victory by the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, Shettima spoke with reporters.

When asked about his previous statement regarding retiring Atiku, Shettima emphasized that they are now in the governance phase, and Atiku is an elder statesman whom he holds in high regard.

Shettima clarified that he would not be sending Atiku to Dubai or Morocco, but rather, he would be retired to Kombina. He humorously mentioned providing Atiku with goats, broilers, and layers for rearing, but on a more serious note, acknowledged Atiku’s status as an elder statesman with a wealth of experience.

Shettima emphasized that politics is now behind them, and governance is the priority. He expressed the need to tap into Atiku’s experience and exposure to elevate the nation to a higher level.

In a comprehensive judgment, the Tribunal dismissed petitions against Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election. Despite this outcome, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) have indicated their intention to consult their lawyers to determine their next course of action.
