Iran Threatens To Seize Citizens’ Overseas Property For Supporting US & Israel
According to Ireporter Online, the Iranian government has issued a stern warning to citizens living abroad, threatening the confiscation of their property and the imposition of legal penalties if they express support for the United States and Israel following the reported death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The announcement came as members of the Iranian diaspora reportedly gathered in European and American cities to celebrate Khamenei’s death.
The prosecutor general’s office stated that any Iranian living abroad who sympathizes, cooperates, or supports what it described as the “American-Zionist enemy” would face legal consequences, including the seizure of all their assets. State media cited the warning as part of a broader effort to deter dissent among expatriates.
Reports indicate that newly created Telegram channels have begun circulating personal information of prominent Iranians living overseas who have criticized Iran’s clerical authorities or expressed support for US and Israeli military actions that began on February 28.
Iranian diaspora members advocating for political change have increasingly taken to the streets of Western capitals, highlighting tensions between Tehran and expatriates. With between five and ten million Iranians living abroad—primarily in the United States and Western Europe—the government’s threats mark a notable escalation in efforts to influence and control the political discourse of its citizens outside the country.
Analysts note that while Iranian authorities have previously targeted expatriates through online harassment and pressure on relatives remaining in Iran, the warning of property confiscation signals a more aggressive approach to suppress dissent and criticism abroad.
