Filmmaker Jade Osiberu has raised concerns over the increasing trend of sharing deeply personal trauma experiences on podcasts, questioning whether public confessions are gradually replacing therapy and genuine community support.

According to Ireporter Online, Osiberu shared her thoughts in a post on X on Tuesday after listening to a podcast episode where a female guest spoke emotionally about painful experiences from her marriage and divorce.

The filmmaker said she spent about an hour listening to the conversation, describing how the guest revealed intimate details of her struggles while becoming emotional and receiving support from the podcast host.

While expressing sympathy for the woman’s experience, Osiberu said the situation made her reflect on a wider cultural change where people increasingly turn to public platforms to discuss personal pain.

She questioned whether society is beginning to replace traditional support systems and professional counselling with online platforms where individuals share their experiences publicly and seek validation from audiences.

Osiberu acknowledged that telling personal stories can help others who may be facing similar challenges feel less alone. However, she expressed curiosity about whether such public disclosures provide lasting healing for those who participate.

The filmmaker also questioned whether there is a difference between genuinely sharing one’s truth and using public platforms to seek revenge or expose people who caused emotional pain.

She noted that while people deserve spaces to express their experiences, there may be a need to consider the long-term consequences of making private struggles public.
