The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially disowned Lead City University in Ibadan, Oyo State, for conducting admissions into its law programme despite a standing five-year suspension on the institution.

According to a statement issued by the board’s Public Communications Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, the admissions were not processed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), the only approved platform for managing tertiary institution admissions in Nigeria. JAMB therefore declared the admissions null and void, stressing that the university is not authorized to admit students into the programme until the ban is lifted.

“The institution is not authorised to admit candidates into the programme until the expiration of the suspension,” the statement read. “This development underscores the importance of heeding repeated advisories from the board that candidates should not accept any offer of admission outside CAPS, as such admissions are considered invalid. Candidates admitted through irregular means have no legitimate claim and are regarded as complicit.”

The board further cautioned that any offer of admission outside CAPS should be disregarded, and advised affected candidates to register for the next UTME examination to secure legitimate admission. JAMB also warned against attempts by some universities to transfer illegally admitted candidates to other institutions, noting that inter-university transfers will only be recognized if the initial admission was validly processed through CAPS.
