JUST IN: CBN Deputy Governor Appears Before Reps
Aisha Ahmad, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria in charge of Financial Stability, appeared before the House of Representatives to brief lawmakers on the apex bank’s cashless policy and cash withdrawal limits.
The lawmakers agreed on Wednesday that a deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) should appear to brief the House today (Thursday) in the absence of the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, who is away on medical leave.

In a briefing to lawmakers, Ahmad stated that the December 5 apex bank policy announcement was a continuation of the cashless policy implemented about ten years ago.
She stated that it was not intended to disenfranchise Nigerians, but rather to bring all segments of society into formal banking systems.
