JUST IN: Court Takes Strong Action In PDP’s Suit Seeking To Invalidate Rivers APC Candidates For 2023 Elections

APC

A suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party against the All Progressives Congress (APC) was dismissed by a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, presided over by Justice Turaki Mohammed (PDP).

In its suit, the PDP asked the court to invalidate the candidacy of all legislative candidates running on the APC platform in the state because their primaries were not monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and they did not comply with the Electoral Act.

However, the court dismissed the case, citing a lack of jurisdiction based on an earlier decision by the Court of Appeal that prohibited political parties from interfering in the internal affairs of other parties.

Emenike Ebete, counsel to the APC, spoke to journalists after the court decision and hailed it as a victory for justice. According to him, APC candidates can now campaign freely throughout Rivers state.

Asita Asita, the APC candidate for Rivers West Senatorial District, praised the decision while charging his party to defeat the PDP in the upcoming elections.

Dike Udenna, counsel to the PDP, declined to comment on the decision.

Recall that the APC’s gubernatorial candidate in the state was disqualified from running for office two weeks ago due to dual citizenship; however, the decision is being appealed.
