JUST IN: Newly Commissioned Osun Flyover Sinks, Area Sealed Off

The 672-metre flyover, reportedly constructed at a cost of ₦8.52 billion, was commissioned by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on July 1, 2026. However, following rainfall in Osogbo during the early hours of Friday, part of the structure reportedly gave way, leaving one section of the bridge with visible cracks and a sunken asphalt surface.

The development immediately sparked concern among motorists and commuters, many of whom abandoned the route in favour of alternative roads over fears about the safety of the bridge.

Eyewitnesses observed that the affected portion, located on one lane of the flyover, had become difficult to navigate, forcing motorists to slow down while passing through the damaged section.

Residents and road users have called on the state government to urgently carry out repairs to prevent further deterioration and ensure the safety of commuters using the vital transport link.

Following the incident, authorities restricted access to the flyover by cordoning off the affected area, while operatives of the Amotekun Corps were deployed to secure the bridge and prevent vehicles and pedestrians from entering.

As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government had not issued an official statement regarding the incident or outlined plans for repairs.
