Just In: NSCIA Urges Muslim-Clerics In Kano To Refrain From Involvement In Emirate-Crisis (Details)
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has issued a statement urging Muslim clerics in Kano not to interfere in the ongoing crisis surrounding the deposition of five emirs in the state. The statement, released by Secretary-General Salisu Shehu, expressed concern over contradictory statements from the state’s Council of Ulamas, warning that such remarks could escalate tensions rather than resolve the issues at hand.
The emirate crisis has raised fears of potential law and order breakdown in Kano, prompting the NSCIA to call for non-partisan measures from President Bola Tinubu to address the situation. However, another group has issued a separate statement, urging Governor Abba Yusuf to comply with a court order against the deposition of the emirs.
In its intervention, the NSCIA appealed to clerics, highlighting their role as custodians of Islamic learning and values, urging them to exercise caution and refrain from exacerbating tensions or polarizing the community with their statements.
