The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has made significant strides in tackling gunrunning and curbing the spread of illegal firearms and ammunition across the country. According to a statement from Force spokesperson, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, one of the key arrests included a syndicate of eight gunrunners in Plateau State. The suspects, identified as Joseph Tara, Victor Ali Pam, Abua Yusuf, Bako Isa, Salamatu Iliya, Solomon Gbarale, Musa Arine, and Bitrus Chung, were apprehended after police traced their illegal activities.

The breakthrough came after the arrest of the first suspect, leading to the discovery of a large cache of arms hidden in a vehicle doormat. During the operation, officers recovered 12 rounds of 7.88mm live ammunition, 8 fabricated AK-47 rifles, 4 revolver guns, 4 semi-automatic pistols, 11 AK-47 magazines, and 1,105 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition.

Further arrests in Plateau State led to the confiscation of a semi-automatic pistol from suspect Amos Sunday Gyang, who claimed to have found the weapon hidden in his rented apartment without reporting it to the authorities.

The NPF has reminded citizens that possessing a firearm without proper authorization is illegal, urging the public to report any discovered weapons to avoid legal consequences.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reiterated the commitment of the force to protecting lives and properties, emphasizing the priority of efforts to combat security threats. The police also encouraged the public to cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities to ensure the maintenance of law and order across the country.
