Kaduna Council Of Imams And Ulamas Criticizes Senate’s Rejection Of Nasir El-Rufai As Ministerial Nominee

On Monday, the Senate chose to withhold confirmation for El-Rufai and two other nominees due to pending security checks.
However, the Council of Imams and Ulamas, during a press conference held in Kaduna State, criticized the rationale presented by the Senate for not confirming El-Rufai, characterizing it as a political vendetta and an abuse of power against the former Governor.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Imam Muhammad Kasshim, the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Imams and Ulamas, questioned why the Senate would delay El-Rufai’s confirmation based on petitions lodged against him by Shiites, a group that has been proscribed by the Federal Government, and certain members of the Christian community. He noted that relying on such petitions to block El-Rufai’s ministerial confirmation could have negative consequences for the country in the long run.
The Muslim clerics described the petitions against El-Rufai by Shiites and others as groundless and exaggerated. They also alleged that some individuals who are apprehensive about El-Rufai’s appointment and his influential political standing are responsible for his current predicament.
While urging the Senate to promptly confirm El-Rufai as a minister due to his competence and his role in the success of the All Progressives Congress during the Presidential election, the Council of Imams and Ulamas cautioned against indulging in politics of vengeance and power abuse against the former Governor, emphasizing that such actions should not be tolerated by conscientious Nigerians
