The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has affirmed its readiness to welcome Governor Abba Yusuf and other political figures into the party, pending only the Presidency’s official announcement of the date.

Ibrahim Zakari Sarina, the APC State Secretary, confirmed that preparations for the governor’s defection have been completed and that the party is awaiting directives from the federal leadership to formalize the event.

“We have concluded all arrangements to receive Governor Yusuf and other political figures, and we are now waiting for the Presidency to fix a date,” Sarina stated.

At a recent stakeholders’ meeting, discussions focused on the party’s electronic membership registration drive and strategic planning for the 2027 general elections. Sarina described the registration exercise as a significant advantage for the APC in strengthening its base ahead of future polls.

While Governor Yusuf’s potential defection was mentioned during the meeting, Sarina emphasized that the party welcomes the development, highlighting that its priority remains consolidating support and ensuring electoral success.

“Any addition to our fold is what we are looking for. The ultimate goal is to win elections at the end of the day,” he added.

On the political future of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Sarina said the APC would not exert pressure on him to join. Though Kwankwaso appears uninterested, the party remains open to his eventual inclusion.

“For Kwankwaso, it seems he is not interested, and that is fine. If he decides to come, he is welcome,” Sarina remarked. He also cautioned that the APC would not tolerate internal crises, citing Kwankwaso’s history of political tensions.

“With the government at the centre, I don’t think he will have much influence to destabilize anything,” Sarina concluded, reaffirming the party’s confidence in maintaining unity and control in Kano State.
