The event, executed by the NANAS Foundation, a charitable initiative founded by Mrs. Idris, brought together over 300 widows, divorcees, and indigents in holy matrimony.
The primary objective of the mass wedding, as emphasized by Mrs. Idris, was to address the prevalent issue of high divorce rates and provide support to widows and financially disadvantaged individuals who may struggle with the expenses associated with marriage. Essential household items such as beds, chairs, and kitchen utensils were also provided to the newlyweds as part of the initiative.
During the event, the Kebbi State First Lady highlighted the government’s commitment to returning governance to the people, ensuring that the less fortunate and marginalized members of society feel a sense of belonging and support under Governor Nasir Idris.
“My husband has said it at several public functions that he will return governance to the people, and he is doing just that through massive projects and welfare to the people of Kebbi State,” Mrs. Idris noted.
The mass wedding ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Sheik Aminu Daurawa, a renowned Islamic cleric from Kano State, local government chairmen, prominent political figures from Kebbi, and officials from Hisbah who played a significant role in organizing the event.
A substantial dowry of 21 million naira was given to the parents of the brides, with each bride receiving seventy thousand naira, along with a set of chairs, beds, kitchen utensils, and food items. The beneficiaries, carefully selected from the 21 local governments, contributed to the event’s substantial turnout, marking it as a significant initiative promoting social cohesion and community welfare in Kebbi State.
