Governor Fubara’s victory in the March 18 governorship election was affirmed by the Supreme Court, dismissing all petitions against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.
Speaking at a special thanksgiving service held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Opobo Town, Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Governor Fubara recounted the challenges faced during his political journey and acknowledged the instrumental role President Tinubu played in his success.
“When I look at your faces, even when I feel heavy in my spirit, I’m encouraged to be happy. It has not been easy, I can say it… But one thing we can’t take away is that God does not make any mistake. Whatever happens, when it happens, it is for a purpose,” Governor Fubara expressed.
“I want to thank God first, our dear President; he’s been a great and wonderful father. He has supported, and I can say it without being economical with the truth that we are standing here because of his support.”
Governor Fubara extended his gratitude to his family, the leaders who supported him, and the resilient people of Rivers State who stood firm in the face of provocation.
The intervention of President Tinubu in the political feud between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, was highlighted. The political crisis, fueled by ideological differences and personal allegations, had escalated into a full-blown feud. In December 2023, President Tinubu successfully brokered a truce between the two leaders, leading to the withdrawal of court cases and a commitment to reconciliation.
While Governor Fubara expressed optimism about navigating the path of peace, he emphasized the need for continued prayers to overcome challenges. The Supreme Court victory and the reconciliation efforts underscore the intricate dynamics of political relationships and alliances, showcasing the role of influential figures in shaping the political landscape.
