Lagos Imposes Traffic Diversions For Fanti Carnival At TBS
According to Ireporter Online, the Lagos State Government has announced a detailed traffic diversion plan ahead of the annual Lagos Fanti Carnival, scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island.
The Ministry of Transportation issued an advisory outlining temporary restrictions on vehicular movement along key roads surrounding the carnival venue to ensure a smooth and safe celebration. Affected routes include King George V Road by Mobil Filling Station, Flag House inbound TBS, Force Road inbound TBS, Onikan Roundabout inbound TBS, and Waterboy Roundabout near Old Defence House.
All link roads connecting to Moloney Road will also be closed, including Military Road by Old Defence Building, Ajasa Street, Boyle Street, and Hawley Street.
To ease traffic disruption, the government designated several car parks for public use, such as Yoruba Lawn Tennis Club Car Park, Zone 2 Car Park opposite Island Club along King George V Road, Museum Kitchen Car Park, and The Bell Car Park near Island Maternity.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, advised motorists to plan their journeys ahead of time and follow directions from traffic officials deployed along the affected routes. Personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be present at all diversion points to manage traffic and assist road users.
The Lagos Fanti Carnival, a celebration of the city’s Afro-Brazilian heritage, is expected to draw large crowds, necessitating comprehensive traffic management around Lagos Island.
