Lagos Issues Flood Alert (SEE LOCATIONS)

The Lagos State Government has issued a fresh flood warning to inhabitants of specific areas within the state.

In an announcement released on Tuesday and bearing the signature of Lekan Shodeinde, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources, the state government has alerted residents to be cautious of substantial rainfall expected between August 14 and 18.

Residents of Apapa, Badagry, Eti Osa, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Ikoyi, Lagos Island, and Ojo are being advised by the state to be prepared for severe rainfall that could potentially trigger sudden flooding during the upcoming week and beyond.

Citing information from the Flood Emergency Warning System (FEWS) Central Hub of the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Shodeinde has urged all inhabitants in the mentioned areas to exercise vigilance and stay watchful during and after the aforementioned time frame when it comes to rainfall.

He has also urged individuals living in flood-prone regions and low-lying areas to make preparations to relocate to higher ground until the rainfall subsides.

Additionally, he has emphasized the importance of people and motorists refraining from venturing into floodwaters, especially during rain showers, as the water’s force could lead to being swept away.

Shodeinde has stressed that this warning has been issued to prevent avoidable loss of lives and property, which often occurs during such incidents.
