Makinde Ascends Royal Heights As Akure Kingdom Bestows Prestigious Chieftaincy Title

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and his wife, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, were on Friday conferred with the prestigious titles of Aare Omoluabi and Yeye Aare Omoluabi of Akure Kingdom by the Deji of Akure, Oba (Dr.) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi.

Speaking during the colourful ceremony held in Akure, Governor Makinde expressed deep gratitude for the honour, describing it as both symbolic and a call to greater responsibility. According to iReporter Online, the governor pledged to redouble his efforts in supporting the development of Akure Kingdom, especially in completing key infrastructural projects.

Makinde recalled fond childhood memories tied to Akure, noting that the recognition was particularly significant given his familial roots in the ancient kingdom. “In 1977, I was here at the age of ten. This honour reaffirms that I am a true son of the soil,” he said. “It’s now a greater call to do more for our people,” he added.

According to iReporter Online, the governor also announced his intention to contribute meaningfully to the completion of the Akure Town Hall and the modernisation of the Deji’s Palace, aligning his commitment with the 10th coronation anniversary of the monarch, which he described as a milestone deserving of monumental impact.

Makinde, joined by his visibly elated wife, also paid tribute to his mother, Mrs. Victoria Modupe Alo, who insisted on witnessing the honour being bestowed upon her son. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from Oyo State and across Nigeria.
