agencies and departments under the ministry, Oyetola emphasized the importance of aligning the budget with the pillars of the National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy and the 2021-2025 National Development Plan.

Enhancing Transparency and Economic Growth

Oyetola urged agencies to prioritize transparency, fiscal prudence, and strategic allocation of resources to ensure impactful development. He remarked, “Our fiscal strategy must reflect the ambitions outlined in our policy framework. Every naira allocated must deliver measurable results.”

The Minister, a former governor of Osun State, highlighted that the budget would not only address immediate needs but also foster sustainable management of marine resources, driving long-term national economic growth.

Unleashing the Potential of the Marine and Blue Economy

Oyetola outlined the immense potential of the marine sector in promoting economic growth, job creation, and environmental stewardship. This aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

He stressed the need for investments in:

• Maritime Security: Strengthening surveillance systems and enforcing maritime laws.
• Aquaculture and Fisheries: Enhancing capacity, developing fishing ports, and curbing illegal fishing.
• Research and Innovation: Promoting oceanographic studies, renewable marine energy, and climate resilience technologies.

The National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy

Oyetola described the draft National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy as a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable marine resource management. The policy aims to align with global best practices and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 14, which advocates for sustainable use of marine resources.

“This policy embodies our commitment to climate adaptation, technological innovation, and enhanced governance in the sector,” he added.

By prioritizing these areas, the 2025 budget seeks to position Nigeria as a leader in the marine and blue economy, ensuring sustainable growth and development for years to come.
