According to Ireporter Online, former Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel has advised Chelsea to consider appointing Filipe Luís as their next permanent manager amid ongoing uncertainty over the club’s leadership.

Chelsea are once again searching for a new head coach following the departure of Liam Rosenior, with Calum McFarlane currently handling interim duties. The managerial change marks yet another reshuffle in a period of instability at Stamford Bridge, which has seen several coaches dismissed since the BlueCo takeover in 2022.

Speaking on his Obi One Podcast, Mikel expressed concern over the lack of stability at the club, questioning whether top managers would be willing to take up the role under the current conditions. He stressed the need for a strong authoritative figure in charge rather than a revolving door of short-term appointments.

“We’ve been successful in the past because we had managers… someone who will say ‘this is my football club and I’m going to manage everything,’” Mikel said, highlighting the importance of control and long-term vision.

While other names such as Andoni Iraola and Cesc Fàbregas have been mentioned in connection with the job, Mikel cast doubt on their suitability within Chelsea’s current structure. Instead, he pointed to former teammate Filipe Luís, praising his tactical approach and impressive work at Flamengo, where he has been noted for disciplined and purposeful football.

“He is a fantastic manager and his team played fantastic football… there was a clear structure and purpose,” Mikel added, ultimately backing Filipe Luís as his preferred choice for the role.

Chelsea’s immediate attention now shifts to their FA Cup Final clash against Manchester City, even as discussions continue over who will lead the club into the next season.
