Burkina Faso and Madagascar, who had previously accumulated strong point totals, saw their tallies reduced after the deduction of results against bottom-ranked teams. Burkina Faso, in particular, dropped to fifth place among the second-placed teams, narrowly missing out on the play-offs after Nigeria edged them on superior goal difference.

Nigeria’s consistent performances, including a crucial 4–0 victory over Benin Republic in their final qualification match, proved decisive. Despite drawing both legs against Zimbabwe — the lowest-ranked team in Group C — the revised standings favored the Super Eagles, pushing them into the CAF play-offs alongside Gabon, DR Congo, and Cameroon.

The CAF play-offs are scheduled to take place in Morocco this November. Nigeria is set to face Gabon, while Cameroon will clash with DR Congo. Victories in these encounters will send the winners to the inter-confederation play-offs, where they will battle for one of the remaining slots at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
