Tinubu Signs Into Law 2026 Appropriation Bill And 2025 Budget Expansion
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the ₦68.32 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, formally setting the fiscal framework for the upcoming financial year.
According to Ireporter Online, the announcement was made on Friday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The approved budget places total expenditure at ₦68.32 trillion, with allocations including ₦4.799 trillion for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent expenditure, and ₦32.2 trillion dedicated to capital projects under the Development Fund. The structure reflects a significant emphasis on infrastructure and long-term development, with capital expenditure accounting for roughly half of the total budget.
The statement further noted that President Tinubu also signed the Appropriation (Repeal and Enactment) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which extends the implementation period of the 2025 capital budget from March 31, 2026, to June 30, 2026. The extension is aimed at ensuring the full utilisation of funds for ongoing infrastructure and development projects nationwide, while allowing Ministries, Departments and Agencies to complete critical works and improve project delivery outcomes.
With the 2026 Appropriation Act expected to take effect from April 1, the Federal Government is set to commence full implementation in line with its Renewed Hope Agenda. The President directed all MDAs to ensure transparency, discipline, and efficiency in the use of public funds, stressing value for money and timely completion of projects.
He also commended the National Assembly for its swift consideration and passage of the budget, while reiterating the importance of sustained cooperation between the executive and legislature in driving national development. Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fiscal reforms, improved revenue generation, job creation, and expanded social protection measures aimed at boosting economic growth and improving citizens’ welfare.
