Boko Haram Spy Arrested In Borno As Security Forces Intensify Crackdown

According to Ireporter Online, the suspect identified as Abulfatahi was apprehended on July 27 during an intelligence-driven operation aimed at disrupting an alleged terrorist information network operating in the area.

Reports indicate that the arrest followed ongoing investigations into individuals suspected of providing support and intelligence to Boko Haram elements involved in attacks around Borno State.

A counter-insurgency source, Zagazola Makama, disclosed that two other suspected members of the network had earlier been arrested and taken to the Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre for further questioning.

Security sources alleged that during initial interrogation, Abulfatahi confessed to having links with a Boko Haram commander identified as Akilu, who is believed to be coordinating terrorist activities around Dabar Masara and Garin Mace areas.

The suspect was also accused of collecting levies on behalf of the terrorist commander and assisting in identifying potential targets for abduction within Monguno and surrounding communities.

Investigators reportedly recovered two telephone contacts from Abulfatahi’s device, which are believed to be connected to Akilu and may provide further leads into the activities of the suspected network.

Security agencies are said to have expanded their investigation as efforts continue to uncover other individuals allegedly involved in the network and determine the full extent of its operations.

The ongoing probe is expected to support broader counter-terrorism efforts across the Lake Chad region, with authorities preparing a detailed report after the completion of investigations.
