Speaking to the House of Representatives, he outlined key factors contributing to foreign exchange difficulties while highlighting ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy.

As the nation grapples with economic hurdles, Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, noted the significant progress made since May 29, 2023, despite previous economic instability.

Meanwhile, Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, reassured citizens that there are no plans to increase taxes, focusing instead on strategies to enhance tax collection and yield positive results.

Eminent economist, Bismarck Rewane, debunked claims of a ‘cursed’ Naira, attributing its fluctuations to transitional phases and structural issues. He emphasized the need for a holistic approach to address economic challenges, acknowledging that there is no single solution.

On the domestic front, Cardoso outlined projections for real GDP growth and inflation reduction in 2024, reflecting the government’s commitment to economic reforms and stability.

Addressing the forex market’s demand pressures, the CBN has taken comprehensive measures to enhance liquidity, including unifying FX market segments and clearing outstanding obligations.

The recent clearance of $500 million in verified forex liabilities underscores the government’s determination to mitigate economic challenges and foster confidence in the Nigerian economy.

As the nation navigates through economic reforms and policy adjustments, stakeholders remain optimistic about the prospects of sustainable growth and stability.
