According to Ireporter Online, former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, on Monday appeared at the Kaduna State High Court as proceedings continued in the case filed against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The court had earlier adjourned the hearing of his bail application to April 14, setting the stage for the continuation of arguments in the high-profile matter.

The ICPC had previously arraigned the former governor on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion of public property and money laundering, accusing him of financial impropriety linked to public assets during his time in office. The anti-graft agency maintained that the allegations stemmed from activities carried out while he served as governor of Kaduna State.

In a related development, El-Rufai has also petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, requesting the reassignment of the case away from Justice R.M. Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Kaduna. In the petition dated April 9, 2026, he alleged concerns of bias, cited pending disciplinary issues, and argued that the judge’s continued oversight of the trial was “untenable” and could undermine public confidence in the judicial process. The matter remains ongoing before the court presided over by Justice R.M. Aikawa.
