In a statement to Nigeria Info FM, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, confirmed that the agency successfully handled the highest volume of passenger refunds and compensations ever recorded in its history. Achimugu emphasized that passengers who encounter issues with refunds should promptly report them, ensuring they receive their rightful compensation.

He explained, “The refund process is simple. First, passengers should raise their complaints directly with the airline. If the issue remains unresolved, they can escalate it to the NCAA. Every day, we process refunds, and in 2024, we achieved a record number of these transactions.”

Achimugu also reiterated that there is absolutely no excuse for unruly behavior by passengers, stressing the importance of the mechanisms in place for passengers to report any mistreatment they face while traveling. He added, “Two weeks ago, we took action against five airlines—three domestic and two international—for consumer protection violations, the first such sanctions in over a decade. We received positive feedback from this move.”

The NCAA’s increased focus on consumer rights is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the passenger experience and ensure accountability within the airline industry.
