NDC Names Ex-Governor Sam Egwu As Chairman Of Screening Committee

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed former Ebonyi State Governor and ex-Senator, Sam Egwu, as Chairman of its Screening Committee ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, the party announced that the 17-member committee will be responsible for screening aspirants vying for presidential, governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives tickets under the party’s platform.

The disclosure was contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, who also confirmed that the committee is scheduled to be inaugurated at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Sam Egwu, a two-term former governor of Ebonyi State and ex-member of the Senate, is expected to spearhead the vetting process for all political aspirants seeking to contest under the party.

The party also appointed its National Legal Adviser, Reuben Egwuaba, as Secretary of the committee, while Babatunde Ali was named Deputy Chairman.

Other members of the screening panel include prominent figures such as Buba Galadima, Mohammed Takori, Daniel Onifade, Ikeddy Isiguzo, Wole Adedayo, Dr Osusu Osusu, Chief Asukewe Ikoawaji, Prof Udenta Udenta, Frederick E. Owotorufa, Hannatu Tanko, Dogo Shammar, Sir Henry Obaze, Clement Agiagie, and Fatima Abba.

The NDC stated that the committee comprises party leaders, professionals, and members of its National Working Committee, tasked with ensuring a credible and transparent screening process for all aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections.

The inauguration is part of the party’s broader preparations as it intensifies efforts toward the upcoming general elections.
