Dr. Ogbuku noted that the poor condition of the road warranted the emergency actions undertaken by the NDDC to restore its functionality and make it passable for vehicles. This information was released in a statement from the NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.
Accompanied by officials of the Commission, the NDDC CEO received an on-site update from the engineers working for the construction firm responsible for the emergency repair.
Dr. Ogbuku expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the directive to urgently rehabilitate the deteriorated sections of key roads in the Niger Delta region.
“Following presidential instructions for the swift restoration of damaged regional roads, the NDDC has promptly mobilized construction companies to conduct the necessary repairs, ensuring that travelers do not face undue hardship,” he stated.
He also praised the Federal Government for acting quickly to the citizens’ calls for improved road conditions in the Niger Delta.
Dr. Ogbuku expressed confidence that the restoration work on the Owerri-Port Harcourt Road would be durable once finished. “As an intervention agency, we will continue to support both the Federal and State Governments in alleviating the daily challenges faced by commuters,” he emphasized.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality of the work being done and commended the contractor for their readiness to see the project through to completion.
Dr. Ogbuku urged local communities and commuters to be patient during the construction process, affirming that the Commission is committed to completing the project as quickly as possible.
One of the commercial bus drivers who frequently uses the road, Mr. Kinsley Okorigwe, expressed gratitude to the NDDC for responding swiftly to the concerns of commuters suffering from the difficulties caused by the damaged road.
