Terrorists suspected to be members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) attacked a commercial vehicle along the Maiduguri-Banki road in Borno State.

According to counter-insurgency expert Zagzola Makama, who focuses on the Lake Chad region, the attack occurred on February 27 at approximately 1:15 p.m. near the abandoned village of Tufa in Banki Local Government Area.

In an interview, the driver, Bello Abba, whose vehicle had the registration number Adamawa JMT 994 YR, revealed that he was transporting six passengers from Maiduguri to Banki when gunmen on motorcycles suddenly emerged from the surrounding bush and opened fire.

In an attempt to escape, the driver made a U-turn towards Banki town. However, during the attack, a passenger identified as 38-year-old Mohammed Ali Yaye from Bama town was shot in the left leg.

Another driver was also abducted, though his identity remains unknown.

Troops from Operation Hadin Kai later arrived at the scene, but the attackers had already fled.

The injured passenger was initially treated at the Primary Health Care Center (PHCC) in Banki before being transferred to the General Hospital in Mora, Cameroon, for further medical attention.
