Niger State to Serve as Tinubu’s Campaign Headquarters for 2027 Election, Says Governor Umar Bago
Niger State Governor Umar Bago has declared that the state will function as the central hub for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections. Governor Bago will spearhead mobilisation efforts in support of the incumbent president.
In a statement addressing party supporters, Bago reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu, describing Niger State as the “campaign hot quarters” for the president’s bid to secure a second term.
The governor criticized certain APC members—including former governors, ministers, advisers, and commissioners—whom he accused of political betrayal despite having benefited from the party’s administration over the years.
Bago reiterated the importance of the “unwritten understanding” to rotate political power between Nigeria’s northern and southern regions, noting that this arrangement has helped maintain national stability. He argued that just as the North completed its eight-year tenure under the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Tinubu deserves continued support in his current administration.
Addressing criticisms over infrastructure, Bago insisted that both the Buhari and Tinubu administrations inherited dilapidated roads, schools, and hospitals, which they have been working to improve. He emphasized that his government’s focus in Niger State is on “building, rebranding, and fixing,” rejecting claims that the APC is responsible for the country’s economic challenges, which he linked to previous governments’ mismanagement.
On security matters, Governor Bago maintained that the Tinubu administration is not to blame for existing security issues. He noted improvements within Niger State, where areas once considered unsafe are now stable enough for business activities.
Bago also cautioned against politicizing the upcoming state assembly rerun and local government elections. He called for unity within the APC and reminded critics that many had been instrumental in the party’s formation.
“We are Nigerians, and we love Nigeria. APC is what you are; some of you were party chairmen. We formed this APC together,” he said.
