Chairman, House Committee on Basic Education and Member representing Owan Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Rep. Prof. Julius O. Ihonvbere, OON, felicitates with Nigerians all over the world, on the Nation’s 61st independence anniversary.

Prof. Ihonvbere, in his message to Nigerians through his aide, Iriekpen Bright Omogbai, on the occasion of the nation’s 61st independence celebration, stated that, we have the inbuilt capacity, unity and strength to surmount challenges as a Nation. According to the lawmaker, peaceful co-existence, love, peace and unity, are key to a nation’s prosperity as nothing functions in an unstable democracy.

While noting that the COVID-19 pandemic is not over, he urged Nigerians not to take things for granted and to continue to abide by the established protocols.

Furthermore, he urged the government at all levels (Local, State and Federal), to provide an adequate conducive environment for businesses to operate as well as the needed basic infrastructural and social amenities for citizens. With this, the problems of unemployment, insecurity, social vices and poverty ravaging the Nation will be ameliorated as more jobs will be created for the citizenry, he stated.

Prof. Ihonvbere, used the opportunity to remind Nigerian leaders that we have children still under captivity by bandits; and that we must consider it an embarrassment that we still have schools without furniture, water, toilets, playgrounds and enough teachers in 2021 all over the country. He noted that thousands of qualified young Nigerians still roam the streets in search of jobs and most citizens either cannot travel to their communities or travel in fear due to widespread insecurity.

The Lawmaker called on Government and leaders to go beyond speeches, grandstanding, promises and rise to the responsibility of protecting and prospering Nigeria and Nigerians.
