Nigerian Immigration Orders Repatriation Of Zimbabwean Bishop For Visa Violation

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has ordered the repatriation of Zimbabwean Bishop Eben K. Nhiwatawi, citing violations of immigration regulations. Nhiwatawi, who arrived in Nigeria on August 21, 2024, was initially in the country on a Tourist Visa (F5A). However, he was found participating in the United Methodist Church Nigeria (UMCN) leadership election, an activity not permitted under the terms of his visa.

According to a statement from the Service’s Public Relations Officer, DCI KT Udo, the bishop’s involvement in the church’s election process contravenes the stipulations of his visa, which is designated for tourism only. As a result, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, with approval from the Minister, has mandated his immediate repatriation.

The statement emphasized the NIS’s commitment to upholding Nigeria’s national security and ensuring compliance with immigration laws. The Service encourages legitimate foreign investment and business activities but will not condone violations of immigration policies.

Efforts to reach leaders of the United Methodist Church Nigeria for comments on this matter were unsuccessful.
