Ashe, a prominent athlete who represented Nigeria at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, was apprehended in Alabama on Thursday, February 9, following accusations of multiple counts of theft and fraud reported by Columbus-based media outlet (WTVM).
According to the media report, Ashe has been charged with four counts of fraudulent use of debit/credit cards and two counts of third-degree theft of property.
The 21-year-old athlete, known for his remarkable performance at the Commonwealth Games where he secured a bronze medal in the 4×100m relay, had recently switched from the University of Tennessee to Auburn University in Alabama, where he competed in the NCAA.
The police statement revealed that the victim filed a theft report on February 4, alleging Ashe’s involvement in the robbery at the 100 block of West Magnolia Avenue. Further investigations revealed Ashe’s alleged use of stolen cards for fraudulent transactions, exacerbating the severity of the charges against him.
