Nigerians React As Man Allegedly-Commits Suicide In Benue-State

Tragedy struck in Kanshio community, a suburb of Makurdi, the capital city of Benue State, as one Terhide Garfa reportedly committed suicide on Thursday.

According to an eyewitness named Nick, the lifeless body of Garfa was discovered inside a transformer around 3:45 pm on Thursday. The circumstances leading to Garfa’s entry into the fenced transformer remain shrouded in mystery.

Nick, a resident of the area, recounted that someone heard Garfa expressing his desire to speak with his mother or else he would end his life. However, it is unclear whether Garfa was able to communicate with his mother before the tragic incident occurred.

Reacting to the incident, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED), Adakole Elijah, expressed bewilderment, describing the occurrence as strange. He emphasized that the transformer where Garfa’s body was found is fully fenced, raising questions about how Garfa gained access.

Elijah suggested that the incident could be linked to either suicide or attempted vandalism, noting that pictorial evidence indicated that Garfa forced his way into the transformer. He reiterated the warning issued by JED against approaching its installations.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, Catherine Anene, assured that investigations are underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding Garfa’s tragic action.

The incident underscores the need for heightened awareness about mental health issues and the importance of maintaining safety around electrical installations.
