NiMet Forecasts Three Days of Thunderstorms and Rain Nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted widespread thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across various regions of the country from Monday, June 16, through Wednesday, June 18.

In its three-day weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet warned of early morning thunderstorms across parts of the North on Monday, particularly in states like Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba. By afternoon, the weather is expected to worsen with more intense rainfall and storms forecasted in Borno, Zamfara, Bauchi, Kano, Jigawa, Kebbi, and Katsina.

For the North-Central zone, including the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, and Nasarawa, early morning showers are anticipated, followed by more thunderstorms later in the day.

In the South, morning rains are expected in Ebonyi, Abia, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Rivers, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. NiMet forecasts even more widespread afternoon and evening rainfall in states such as Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Edo, and Delta.

The pattern will likely continue on Tuesday, with early storms hitting Kebbi, Kaduna, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Zamfara in the North. Evening rains are expected in Gombe, Kano, Sokoto, and Katsina.

Rain will persist in the North-Central region, with early morning showers in the FCT, Plateau, and Nasarawa, and late-day thunderstorms over Kogi, Niger, and Benue.

Southern states, including Ogun, Ondo, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos, are forecasted to receive morning rainfall, while Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom may see increased precipitation in the evening.

By Wednesday, thunderstorms will begin early in Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba, with afternoon showers expected in Gombe and Jigawa.

Residents across all regions are advised to prepare for wet conditions and potential disruptions to daily activities due to the projected storms.
