Nnamdi Kanu Was Pressured By Nigerian Government, Others To Write Letter Ending Sit-At-Home? – Lawyer Ejimakor Makes Fresh Revelation

Lawyer Aloy Ejimakor, who serves as the special counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has refuted claims that Kanu was coerced by the Nigerian government or any other entity to write a letter announcing the end of all sit-at-home exercises in Southeast Nigeria.

In the letter, Kanu declared an end to all sit-at-home exercises, including the planned Monday’s sit-at-home and any other actions aimed at pressuring the government to release him.

The letter, written by Kanu and read out by Ejimakor during a world press conference in Enugu State, was prompted by Simon Ekpa’s refusal to cancel the exercises through his media platforms.

During an appearance on Arise News Newsnight, Ejimakor was asked if there was a possibility that Kanu wrote the letter under duress to secure his freedom. Ejimakor denied any such pressure, stating that Kanu had been in detention for over two years and if he were to succumb to pressure, it would have happened much earlier.

He emphasized that Kanu is not the type to give in to external influences, considering the trials and tribulations he has faced. Ejimakor clarified that during their meeting on July 24, the topic of discussion was not about ending sit-at-home exercises, and Kanu surprised him by bringing it up.

When questioned about the loyalty of the people enforcing the sit-at-home exercise, Ejimakor explained that Nnamdi Kanu is the supreme leader of IPOB, and there is no deputy leader at the moment.

Thus, anyone acting in the name of IPOB, whether for good or bad, is often associated with the organization’s head. Kanu is concerned about this association and seeks to clarify that he did not intend for things to escalate to this extent.

Therefore, he decided to end the sit-at-home actions to disassociate himself from any violence perpetrated in the name of IPOB and to provide clarity and separation between the organization and violent acts.
