No Case To Answer! Court Crushes EFCC Charges Against Fani-Kayode

In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, Justice Olubumni Abike-Fadipe declared that the EFCC failed to establish any link between Fani-Kayode and the alleged offence. The judge noted that the prosecution was unable to present a prima facie case, making it unnecessary for the defendant to mount a defense.

“I have carefully reviewed the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses and found no evidence that the defendant committed the alleged crimes,” the judge stated, emphasizing that the remaining extrajudicial statements could not be used as primary evidence.

Following this, the court discharged and acquitted Fani-Kayode of all charges.

The former minister had been facing a 12-count charge over allegedly submitting forged medical reports to Justice Daniel Osiagor at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he was also being prosecuted in a separate N4.9 billion fraud case.

Speaking to journalists after his acquittal, Fani-Kayode expressed immense relief, stating that he was grateful to finally be free after nearly two decades of courtroom battles.
