Reflecting on past campaigns, Wike recalled his full support for Governor Douye Diri in Bayelsa’s election after a formal request from the PDP. However, he recounted a different approach when former Governor Godwin Obaseki sought his endorsement in Edo State, a request Wike chose to decline.

Wike also commented on his limited recent interactions with Ajayi, noting that the last time they met was when he supported Ajayi’s previous candidacy in Ondo against Eyitayo Jegede. Disappointed with the PDP’s lack of outreach, Wike criticized the party’s leadership, particularly Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the PDP Governors’ Forum leader, with whom Wike has had ongoing tensions.

Stressing the need for dynamic leadership, Wike urged the PDP to demonstrate a readiness to reclaim power in Ondo, saying, “As an opposition, you need to show you’re prepared to lead.”
