Hon. Kalu Mba, the lawmaker representing Ohafia South State Constituency in Abia, has clarified that the recent wave of defections from opposition parties in the state is not the result of any plot by the ruling Labour Party.

Reacting to the defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mba told The Whistler that the mass movement was a direct consequence of the Labour Party’s strong performance in governance.

“I want to make it clear that the defections happening in Abia State are not due to any political coup or scheme orchestrated by the Labour Party to weaken the opposition,” he said. “They are simply a reflection of our effective leadership and the people’s desire for real progress.”

Taking a swipe at his former party, the PDP, Mba remarked that it is politically finished.

“I even saw a mock obituary recently declaring the PDP dead and awaiting burial. I don’t recall the exact date on it, but the message is clear—PDP is already in the political mortuary,” he said sarcastically.

Addressing speculation about Governor Alex Otti possibly switching parties, Mba shut down the rumours.

“Why change a winning team? You don’t! The Labour Party is performing, and so is our governor,” he asserted.

He also predicted a growing wave of defections, noting, “More PDP lawmakers will join us. I foresee a time soon when Labour Party will have 19 to 20 members in the State House of Assembly.”
