Obi, who is now a prominent figure in the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), highlighted the immense but largely untapped potential in the North.

He described the region, which comprises 19 states, as Nigeria’s greatest asset due to its vast arable land and large voting population. However, he lamented that these advantages have continued to be undermined by widespread insecurity.

“We have voted for incompetence, we’ve voted for tribe, we’ve voted for religion; let’s vote for competence,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor added:

“I want them to trust me. The biggest asset of this country is in the north, the uncultivated lands. The criminality we face in the north today, I will deal with it.

If I am president, the North will celebrate me. I have an idea of the problem.”

Obi’s comments come amid his push, alongside other opposition figures, to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
